OneDesk – Getting Started: Task Dependencies

Transcript:

OneDesk lets you establish task dependencies with successor and predecessor links. The predecessor link determines that the task must be completed before its successor task can be started.

You can create predecessor and successor relationships in one of two ways. In a task detail panel, click on the Subtasks & Links tab in the top right. From here, click on ‘Add Linked Items’ and, from the drop-down, choose either ‘preceded by’ or ‘succeeded by’ link. Then, pick the task that you want to link to this one.

With the predecessor and successor relationship established, you can visually see the link between these tasks in the Gantt chart. Here, the predecessor and successor relationship is visually represented and, if desired, can be removed. Simply click on the line that links the two and click ‘Yes’ to remove. You can create predecessor and successor links by dragging from the end of the predecessor task bar to the start of the successor task bar.

Once the relationships have been established, you can reschedule the project to recalculate finish and start dates.

You can also create workflow automations based on predecessor and successor relationships, allowing you to automate actions and updates based on this link. For example, you can automatically update the status of a successor when its predecessor is completed.

From the Gantt chart, you are also able to create start-to-start links and finish-to-finish links by clicking and dragging a line from the starting points of two tasks or the ends of two tasks.
